Why Camp Firefly?
Come join us for a weekend and discover the transformative power of grief camps. Camp Firefly is a balanced mix of traditional camp adventures, grief-therapy activities, and cultural ceremonies (for those who want). Camp Firefly is a safe space for children and youth to grieve the deaths and losses of their loved ones, to connect with other kids experiencing the same painful feelings, and to begin learning how to process those feelings in healthy ways.
The First Ever Camp Firefly
Camp Firefly was first held in the summer of 2021, at Camp Manitou (Headingley, MB).
Due to the pandemic, it was offered as a one-day camp (usually it’s a two or three day camp). But that one-day format worked really well for our grief campers, and it was incredible to see the level of healing and progress they made that day. They laid the foundation for what Camp Firefly has become, and we are forever grateful to them for sharing their grieving journeys with us.
The Next Camp Firefly
Camp Firefly will be held on August 24, 2024, at Camp Manitou.
This year's camp will host between forty and fifty grief campers from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Although many of our grief campers will likely be from families of Indigenous descent, Camp Firefly is proud to welcome kids from all cultural backgrounds and upbringings. Camp Firefly is an inclusive grief camp that values diversity, and all kids who attend have something valuable to teach one another (and us too). Our grief campers will come as individuals, but they will leave with new friends and new allies as they move forward in their grieving journeys.
